Slab City Pet Project

scdcAbandoned Animals

In the United States, it is getting harder and harder for people who don’t own their own home to find a rental that allows pets. This impacts Slab City Residents as often we have had animals that have been dumped off at the Slabs and the owners take off.

There are a lot of compassionate people living at the Slabs that have taken these abandoned animals in to be cared for. And often the people with the biggest hearts do not have a lot of money to pay for pet food and vet services.

The community of Slab City support these compassionate souls helping abandoned animals.

Spay and Neutering Services

We are always on the lookout for dog and cat food donations. Sometimes people with more financial resources will buy an extra bag of pet food and drop it off to the camps that need it.

For over 5 years a lady named Hazel has organized trips to a Vet who would spay female cats and dogs to keep the pet population from exploding. We could use extra funds to help her continue her work. Funds are used to pay for the gas of a volunteer who drives a vehicle that can accommodate 20 or more animals in safety cages to the Vet. There is a small $10 charge per animal.

This program has been so well-received and accepted, that it has also helped residents of nearby Niland as well.
